A duel is fought on this day in 1825 by Alexandre Dumas, then 23 years old. The author of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo suffered no serious injuries in his first duel although the story goes his pants fell down during the fight. He would become an expert swordsman as so many of his characters were portrayed in his novels.
